SAMS International Meeting & Educational Conference (IMEC) in Baltimore 2025

Douglass Marine Company Surveyors Attend The Society of Accredited Surveyors (SAMS)® International Meeting & Educational Conference (IMEC) in Baltimore

Keith and Diane attended the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS®) annual International Marine & Educational Conference (IMEC) held in Baltimore at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor from September 9-12, 2025. The annual meeting and Florida Regional Caucus followed the conference. Chesapeake Bay’s upper Eastern Shore is our family’s old sailing grounds. So after the IMEC concluded we spent three days visiting friends on the Elk River at the headwaters of the Bay and then Cape May.

IMEC was most informative and we were able to reconnect with fellow surveyors we had known for years. The Hyatt Regency was first class and being in the inner harbor was located within walking distance of the sites and attractions in this historic area. We were fortunate to be there on 9/11 and were able to view the memorable exhibit the City created on the area adjacent to its World Trade Center building.

Seminars we attended included two sessions by ABYC and Sea Limited regarding Lithium Ion batteries, their construction, comparison with lead acid and AGM batteries and potential dangers. Dry Boat International gave a presentation regarding their new process for repairing wet and damaged hull internal framing. How to conduct a rigging inspection explained the properties of Dyneema fiber rope, carbon fiber and rod rigging.

CED Technologies presented the proper method to conduct accident reconstruction and James Cote, well-known and respected marine electrical engineer, gave a presentation on the types of corrosion. There were booth displays by marine related companies such as Sensar Marine, a Norwegian firm that produces boat monitoring equipment to detect issues such as position changes, bilge sentry, impacts, and onboard camera monitoring.
